What is a DPF? A Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) is a device designed to remove diesel particulate matter (DPM), or soot, from the exhaust of diesel engines. Diesel particulate filters can remove roughly 85% of the soot found in diesel emissions and can, at times, depending on the filter and other paired equipment, attain 100% soot removal.

Diesel-powered vehicles that are equipped with a DPF diesel retrofit emit no visible emissions from the exhaust pipe and are far less harmful not only to the environment, but to the general health of those in the vicinity of the running vehicle.

Purifilter Plus Diesel Particulate Filter

The Purifilter Plus combines the benefits of the Combifilter's active regeneration and the Purifilter's passive operation, to provide the ultimate diesel retrofit solution. ECS's Purifilter Plus employs a passive Purifilter DPF to allow extended periods of passive operation with periodic active regeneration at an optimal interval determined for your equipment, to reduce diesel emissions while doing the following:

  • Increase Purifilter tolerance of duty cycle variations
  • Provide a proactive fleet management/maintenance tool that insures equipment availability/up-time, low backpressure, fuel economy, and ease of on-board service without DPF removal.

Combifilter DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter)

The Combifilter is an actively regenerated DPF from Engine Control Systems that typically removes 90+% of PM while reducing NO2 emissions, comprised of an integrated DPF and silencer assembly, along with an off-board regeneration control panel. Unlike passively regenerating DPFs, Combifilter-equipped engines don't have to meet minimum duty cycle requirements, so regardless of how you operate, a Combifilter allows certainty and peace of mind in your operation.

Simply plug your Combifilter-equipped vehicle in when you're on lunch or when the day of work is done, and your equipment will be ready for a day of uninterrupted work. The Type S regenerates in 60-90 minutes, and the Type K regenerates in eight hours, or overnight. If you can't tolerate any equipment downtime, a Combifilter exchange system allows you to swap out a dirty filter for a clean filter in two minutes. MINE-X Diesel Particulate Filter

The MINE-X Flow-Through Filter (FTF) is a patent-pending network of flow-through channels consisting of corrugated metal foils and metal fiber fleece. The channels use a continuous but variable cross-section to transfer exhaust gas through the stainless steel filter medium. Nano particles are collected within the filter on the surface of the fibres, which are effectively oxidized by means of a catalytic coating to reduce diesel emissions.

The coating provides high overall particulate reduction across a wide range of exhaust flows and temperatures, with backpressure characteristics similar to a conventional diesel oxidation catalyst. The design effectively destroys carbon monoxide, diesel hydrocarbons, and diesel odor, providing you with a great diesel retrofit.

Cattrap

Mining Diesel Retrofit

The Cattrap is a passively regenerating diesel particulate filter designed by Engine Control Systems specifically for mining and other heavy industrial applications. The Cattrap's advanced base metal soot ignition catalyst system eliminates diesel particulate emissions in excess of 85% while Cattrap Diesel Particulate Filter reducing toxic NO2 emissions. Listed on the United States Mine Safety Health Administration (MSHA) Table 2 List of Diesel Particulate Matter Control Technologies, the ECS Cattrap can be employed in mining environments, while most other DPFs don't provide a diesel retrofit solution suitable for mining.

How does the Cattrap work? A cordierite filter substrate is formed in a honeycomb design; alternating inlet cells are open on one end and plugged at the outlet end. As the exhaust flow enters the open inlet cells, it is forced to pass through the micro-porous walls to the outlet cells, filtering the diesel particulate from the exhaust.

The filter substrate is coated with a proprietary catalytic layer to reduce soot combustion temperatures to a level within the normal temperature range. The Cattrap displays regeneration balance points between 380°C and 425°C, varying with both vehicle engine and application. Continuous passive filter regeneration occurs during a vehicle duty cycle when the exhaust temperatures are above 400°C for more than 25% of the time.

Huss MK Diesel Particulate Filter

The MK-System's active regeneration is executed by a powerful diesel burner, which works independently from the exhaust gas temperature. Depending on the filter size, the regeneration takes between 5 and 45 minutes. This process is supervised by the HUSS control. Huss's high-tech LPS-SiC will reduce diesel emissions by eliminating 99.9% of the harmful soot particles from the exhaust gases. The MK-System (diesel burner technology and the LPS-SiC substrate) is an emission control system verified by CARB as a BAT Level 3+ diesel retrofit.

Huss's Transportation Regeneration Unit DPFs are for use on Thermo King and Carrier applications, engines manufactured from 1998 and newer, and up to 50 hp. As of today, this is the only BAT Level 3+ solution listed on CARB's website. The ULETRU DPF diesel retrofit offers at least 85% reduction in particulate matter, and the LETRU DPF offers at least 50% reduction in particulate matter.
