Idle Reduction

Idle reduction technologies reduce diesel emissions by minimizing idling time in trucks. An idle reduction technology is installed on a vehicle webasto heaters for idle reduction to either reduce unnecessary engine idling, or to create heat, air conditioning, or other service that would otherwise require operating the main drive engine while the vehicle remains stationary.

Webasto heaters include air heaters, coolant heaters, and fluid heaters, which are all suitable for a wide array of applications. When used with the multi-functional controller, the Air Top Evo can be set to boost mode for increased output, altitude mode for performance in higher elevations, and eco mode for reduced fuel consumption. The Air Top Evo 3900 is used in class 8 trucks that operate in extreme conditions or in cargo applications. With the highest output of 18,700 Btu/h, the Air Top Evo 5500 is used in large cargo applications.

Webasto coolant heating systems heat the cold coolant from the engines’ block, then pump it back to the bus’s engine and heat exchangers. The preheated engine starts easily, consumes less fuel, and emits fewer pollutants. Webasto offers the Thermo Top C, Thermo 50, thermo top cThermo 90 ST, Thermo 230/300/350, DBW 2010, DBW 2020/300, and Scholastic Heater.

Thermo Top C: The Thermo Top C is used in shuttle and school buses. Just set the timer and let the Thermo Top do the rest. Transportation supervisors are saving hundreds of thousands of dollars by using Thermo Top C's to pre-heat engines before drivers even arrive.

Thermo 50: The small and robust Thermo 50 water heater warms thermo 50up the cabin interior and the engine to optimal starting temperatures. The stress on the engine through coldstarts is thereby drastically reduced, and the longevity and operational readiness of the engine is substantially increased. Thermo 230/300/350: The Thermo 230/300/350, Thermo 230/300/350the high-performance water heaters of the Thermo series, heat up large engines up to appropriate operational temperatures before actually starting the engine. The passenger cabins in public-transit busses or coach busses can be warmed after long standing periods to a comfortable temperature level without running the motor.

DBW 2010/2016
DBW 2010/2016: Designed to do it all, the DBW 2010 draws in cold engine coolant, then heats it and pumps it back to the vehicle's engine and HVAC system. The result is a pre-heated engine and warm interior. In extreme climates, you can also use the DBW 2010 with additional accessories to warm the fuel and keep it from gelling.

DBW 2020/300: Available in 12 and 24 Volt models, the DBW 2020 and 300 make engine pre-heat and interior heat look easy. The heaters boast 80,000 and 104,000 Btu/h of output, so they are used mainly for large transit buses and motorcoaches.

Scholastic Heater: Designed especially for school buses, the Scholastic Heater warms the engine, the driver and the students, and makes sure that school bus Scholastic Heaterfleets are running safely and efficiently, even on the worst winter days. Webasto brings state-of-the-art technology from conception to reality with the BlueCool , pioneering the use of cold energy storage in the global truck market. The two models are the BlueCool and BlueCool Hybrid, both featuring efficient storage technology and setting them apart from competition. The BlueCool charges while the truck is operating and then is available for engine-off bunk cooling during rest periods. The BlueCool Hybrid features a shore power connection that plugs into any 120V outlet to charge the system and provide hotel load in the cabin.

BlueCool: BlueCool features a cold storage unit that mounts to the frame rail and an air handler that mounts to the back wall inside the cab. While the truck is operating, the alternator generates 12V DC power that is inverted to 110V AC by a power inverter. This drives a refrigeration compressor which freezes water retained in the patented cold storage graphite matrix mounted to the frame rail.

The BlueCool system is now charged and ready to cool the bunk. After the engine is turned off and the BlueCool temperature and fan speed controls are set, a chilled coolant mixture is circulated through the storage core by way of a high-efficiency pump and then transferred between the air handler in the cab and the cold storage unit. The air handler draws in warm air from the bunk and cools it with the chilled coolant circulating in the heat exchanger. The cooled air is returned to the bunk through four adjustable openings in the air handler. The result is a comfortable bunk during rest periods and hundred of dollars saved per month.

BlueCool Hybrid: The BlueCool Hybrid operates similarly to the standard BlueCool when it's not plugged-in, offering bunk cooling on-demand. But, when a 120V outlet is available BlueCool Hybrid can be plugged-in and be charged and discharged simultaneously. This means the user can cool his bunk indefinitely without losing cooling performance.

In addition, two 20-Amp receptacles are available for hotel load, allowing the driver to use virtually any 120V appliance without worrying about running down the vehicle’s battery. With the BlueCool Hybrid, the driver can remain comfortable during extended stays and have access to all the creature comforts of home without needing to run a generator or use a Diesel Powered APU.
